Medical Acupuncture
Medical Acupuncture is a Western form of acupuncture and is based on conventional Western physiology and methods of diagnosis.
Research has shown acupuncture to be effective in treating conditions such as back, shoulder and neck pain, headaches, migraines, trapped nerves, muscle strains, various kinds of rheumatic and arthritic pain and more.
When offering an acupuncture treatment, the first step is to take a full medical history, past and present, to find out the direct cause of the problem and factors that predispose the sufferer to the problem, or cause it to be aggravated.
The next step is an examination of the body to confirm a diagnosis. It is usual to be asked to remove some items of clothing during the examination to allow for appropriate treatment.
During the insertion of needles it is possible to experience a mild pain prick as the needle enters the skin, but this is in no way a severe pain. Most acupuncture treatment will involve some osteopathy and/or medical massage as this combination enhances healing.
